I still carry AA and my faith with me and my regret is not being able to finish with my classmates. Washington High in Sioux Falls was good to me but I know that the Academy carried me through many adolescent times!
I traded places with Karen Paulson though, so it seemed like a fair exchange at the time!
I remember the Symphony Band Tour and the struggle that the bus had to make it up inclines. "Grind me a pound!" someone yelled from the back as the sweating driver went through the gears!
(Mr. Benson was asleep in one of the seats!) I loved him as he was easy on us and just as surprised as we were when we sounded halfway good! I played the timps and had never played anything other than the snares for the Beaver Creek marching band. Clueless, but inspired! Little did I know that the Greyhound bus was purchased from Beaver Creek .... the very same school bus I boarded as a first grader!
I enjoyed the AA reunion with my sister Marie this summer and just wept when I heard the choir. Silly sap! "We Would See Jesus" will do it every time!
I am looking forward to the reunion a year from now and seeing my classmates once again. I had some great time with Sharon Lokken Akland this year. What a blessed heritage! My grandparents met on the steps of the Academy, so it is especially meaningful. I wonder what they thought of Old Main at that point in time. It had to seem so grand to them. This was in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
I have been enjoying gardening and writing in my post mom days! I have 17 step grandchildren and am still counting. Sometimes, I feel it could be considered more conservative to open an orphanage. But that is another novel.
I REALLY wished that I could have attended the reunion this year as I have all of you in my heart from so many years ago. I have been blessed with a wonderful fiance and for obvious reasons we have to wait until we are 65 to tie the knot.
We are currently doing catastrophic claims for hailstorms and hurricanes and travel in a 40 ft. RV. We work for the summer months and go south in the winter to Casa Grande AZ.
Unfortunately, we don't always have ready access to the internet and we had just moved during the reunion, so the message I sent bounced back.
We have relocated back to MN and what a great difference. I love SD dearly, but am glad to be back in MN!
Mark L..... what great photo job on the reunion! Thank you and my classmates look healthy and great!
I will try to attach photos, so we shall see!
Take care all.
