Walter Ordway disappeared November 17, 2014.  Most likely he followed his English Sheepdog Lewis across the ice at Oldham Recreation Site near Soldier, Iowa.  The dog fell through the ice, and speculation that Walt tried to save him, and consequently drowned is the accepted story of his death.  His pick-up was found nearby with the keys in it.  His camera had pictures of Lewis chasing geese from that day. I have read that friends have buried the dog on his farm.

I think a lot of us dismissed Walt as an eccentric with crazy tales from his travels.  He was most certainly a non-conformist, and appears to have been a philosopher of life.  He promoted healthy lifestyles, through a project with Wisconsin bike trails.  He grew his own garden and crops organically.  I would like to recommend that classmates watch this documentary of Walt and his friends, who meant a lot to him.  It is titled  "Alchemy in Iowa". http://vimeo.com/18252535

In reading about him, I have found that there will be a gathering of friends and such in Soldier on the first weekend of June, 2015. Walt's body was finally found by the Monona County Sheriff's team.
